If you tried disabling the comments on your pages or post in Thesis but instead of removing the comment box you see this line Comments on this entry are closed? Here is how you can remove that
.custom .comments_closed p {
display: none;
}
Hit save and your done.

put this inside your custom.css or in your style.css file if your not using Thesis
